When you are consolidating two offices into one, the work you do before moving day matters as much as the move itself. This post picks up where our previous blog post left off. Last time we covered paperwork. Now we are talking about everything else that fills your shelves, drawers, and storage closets.

What should you do with binders and folders?
- Binders and folders
Once you have gone through your paperwork, you will probably find a number of binders and folders sitting empty in your file cabinets and bookcases. Look at each one honestly. If the spine is cracked, the rings no longer close properly, or the cover is falling apart, it is not worth moving. Toss those. Box up the ones that are still in good shape and move them with your office supplies.
2. General office supplies
Dried-out pens, empty glue sticks, broken hole punchers, cracked rulers: offices collect a surprising amount of things that stopped being useful years ago. Go through every drawer and supply cabinet before you pack a single box. Anything that no longer works should be discarded or recycled responsibly, not moved to a new space where it will sit in a drawer for another few years.
3. Electronics
A consolidation move is a good time to look at outdated equipment and decide whether it is worth the cost and effort of moving it. If the office you are merging with already has working printers, monitors, or phones, moving duplicates creates clutter from day one. Bring the responsible people from both offices into that conversation before moving day, not after.
