Work from Home – the Right “Move”

by | Sep 3, 2023

Many of us have been forced to move work from the corporate environment to their home offices. We have already written about some of the practical aspects of creating the right home office environment. Our expertise as a moving company lies in the physical aspects of an actual office relocation. Anyway, this time it is not about transporting furniture and equipment. Our current circumstances are about COVID-19 and social distancing. So this is about how a change for employees to work from home can be “the right move.”

Is work from home more productive?

It has already been suggested that telecommuting can actually raise productivity. Still, the change from the familiar corporate environment to a comparatively isolated home office might require some adjustment.

This is also the case for those with a supervisory role: Managing others remotely is often a new experience. Since there are limited options for control, a team manager might turn to micro-managing. After all, they want to make sure that the team stays efficient and productive. However, this approach is not necessarily the best solution. It could even be counterproductive. Statistically, employees with a home office turn out to be more productive. However, the task (or challenge) is not controlling the team, but maintaining a team feeling.

Working teams in isolation

For the individual, working on a remote basis can have many benefits. Not having to commute is perhaps the most obvious, but certainly not the only one. However, along with these benefits comes the possibility of new stress factors. Examples for such stress factors:

  • potential distractions from family members
  • blurred lines between work and leisure (i.e., work-life balance)
  • lack of/creation of the right work environment at home
  • a feeling of isolation from the other co-workers, lack of community feeling
  • a lack of “choice” (in the times of pandemic): After all, remote work can be great, but being forced to stay out of the company office can diminish such a feeling.

In our already mentioned recent blog post, we have collected a variety of resources for tips to help you with the transition. You can also find another interesting article here: “20 Tips From People Who Do It Successfully.”

Adan and Fil were efficient and handled items with care. I would use them again.
These guys were great. Very polite and professional. Hard workers and the move went well with no damages! And Gary is very patient with me as I had difficulties trying to get him paid through Zelle and had to get a business check but he was very patient and we got it all figured out. I would recommend this company for local moves.
Highly recommend this company. From estimate to final move, we received the best service from the office staff who explained and answered all our questions and the 2 young men who moved us taking all precautions with our items. Thank you for your transparency and professionalism.
