The week of your move is genuinely hectic. There are a dozen things pulling at your attention at once, and the ones that slip through the cracks tend to be the ones that cause real problems later. At Brothers Easy Moving of Tampa, we have helped with more than 25,000 moves across Tampa, Riverview, and St. Petersburg since 2010. We see the same overlooked tasks come up again and again. Here is a straightforward list of what to handle the week you move.
What should you do with appliances before moving day?
If you are bringing major appliances with you, prepare them early in the week. Unplug your refrigerator and freezer and let them defrost completely so you are not dealing with water pooling in the truck during the move. Unplug your washer and dryer as well, and avoid running them in the final days before you go.
Did you switch your utilities yet?
Ideally this gets done as soon as you have a closing date, but if you are already in move week and it has not happened, do it today. The goal is a clean handoff so you are not paying for services at two addresses or arriving at a dark house. The ones people most commonly forget are water, trash and recycling services, and internet. Make sure your electric and heating providers have your new address confirmed before the truck rolls.
What about your bank and your address on file?
If you bank with a local institution and you are moving a significant distance away, find a bank you are comfortable with near your new home before you make the switch. Whether you change banks or not, update your mailing address with your current bank and let them know about the move. It takes a few minutes and saves a lot of confusion with statements and cards later.
What else tends to get forgotten in the rush?
Prescriptions are a common one. Transfer any regular medications to a pharmacy near your new home before you leave. While you are at it, if you have a new doctor lined up, call and schedule an appointment this week even if the earliest slot is a month out. Once you are unpacking boxes and learning a new neighborhood, months can pass before you circle back to that call.
There is a lot to coordinate the week you move. Our crews handle the loading, transport, and unloading so you have time and mental space to work through this list.
