What should you check before move-in day?
Even if you have done this before and know the campus well, it is worth going back to your school’s official sources before you load the truck. Since the COVID pandemic began in 2020, colleges have updated their move-in procedures more than once. What was true last semester may not be true today.
- Check your college’s website. Most schools post move-in instructions, time windows, and any current health requirements in a dedicated section. Read it a week out, then read it again the day before.
- Watch your email inbox. Last-minute changes often come through email first. Set a filter so those messages do not land in your spam folder.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) publishes current guidance on health and safety practices. If you want more detail than your school provides, that is a reliable place to look.
- Pack a small supply of protective gear and cleaning supplies with your other essentials. If local stores near campus are sold out, you can order ahead from Walmart, Target, Amazon, or most office supply retailers and have items waiting when you arrive.
