Getting Your Home Ready for the Holidays

It’s December, and if you still haven’t decorated your home, it’s time to get started. Everyone’s now feeling the holiday spirit — from the Christmas music that plays on repeat 24/7 to the crowded malls filled with last minute shoppers. Your homes needs to be decked for the holiday season too.

Holiday Home Tips From Your Local Moving Company in Tampa

To help you catch up with your holiday decorating, here are some tips and tricks from your local moving company in Tampa.

Clean Up

Before putting up ornaments, take out all your other decorations and make sure your home is clean. It’s really self-defeating decorating a messy home. Not only do the new decorations add to the mess, none of them are highlighted. A 7-foot tree has less impact when there are piles of books, clothes and Thanksgiving decorations lying all over the living room.

This will also help your Holiday plans run smoother. At least, your home is all clean and ready to go for when you start inviting people for Christmas dinners or if your in-laws decide to surprises yo with a visit.

Decorate the Lawn

A lot of homeowners are too focused on picking a tree, adding boughs of holly and peppering all rooms with a hanging mistletoe. The outside is often neglected. Join in the with community’s good cheer by adding Christmas decorations to your garden, lawn or porch.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on this. Pick a focal point — a cheeky Santa, a DIY sleigh or even a snowman you made with the kids — then just add little trinkets to highlight that. You can use fairy lights, wreaths, and other outdoor-appropriate ornaments.

This way, even if you’re still midway through decorating the rest of your home, the exterior is at least already very festive. Besides, this is the first thing people will see. It’s a great way to bring some Christmas spirit to your guests and neighbors.

Recycle Old Decorations

So many people end up spending too much on decorations each year because they don’t keep a lot of the decorations from the previous year. That’s massive waste of ornaments and money. Understandably, you want something a bit new and fresh this year — especially if you host parties.

What you can do is build a different theme from some of the more expensive or key items that you’ve kept. You can also introduce a new Holiday scent that your house will smell like every year. It’s a lot cheaper, but your still keeping things interesting. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to get your home ready for the holiday season. All you need is a little bit of creativity and you’re good to go.
